Hi, doll.
I’ve never put stock in the changing of the Christian calendar, but I do appreciate any opportunity for what I call spiritual GPS—recalibration, baby! So three years ago on New Year’s day, I decided my evergreen new-year motto would be: Where is the love?
It’s a phrase I saw in a bookstore, then on a postcard a friend sent me, then on walls spray-painted around the city. First I read it as a Rodney Dangerfield bit: “What’s a guy gotta do to get some love?” Then, as a depressive cry: “Where is the love in this forsaken world?!”
Finally, I decided to embrace the phrase as a clue in a mystical scavenger hunt.
For I’ve had my fair share of rough times, and it’s sometimes made me rough on myself and others. Even a little cynical for a professional intuitive. But as the phrase Where is the love? appeared again, again, again, I realized it wasn’t asking me to ignore the grief, manipulation, greed, injustice I see in the world. Nor was it asking me to ignore the hurt I carry.
It was simply inviting me to also look for the love. The compassion and generosity that stubbornly flourishes like a weed in a sidewalk crack.
I will never pretend 2023 was easy. It was hard as hell. But I still always see the love. In what I read and watch. In city parks and rural road stops. In neighbors, strangers, clients, friends. In new arms and old allies. In art, animals, trees, film, soil, sky, music, rivers, books, and always the ocean.
And I see it in you—your hard work, humor, integrity, grace, vulnerability, and absolutely gorgeous imperfections.
When we privilege love as a labor, an economy, a value, and as a guiding force, a utopia is as likely an outcome as a dystopia. So join me in looking for the love in the unfamiliar terrain of this new year.
May we all shine in its glow.
Mercury Momentum and Other Ruby Business
Lending momentum to the launch of this new year, Mercury retrograde ends tonight.
This one mostly amounted to financial snafus for this witch. (I got triple-charged for car insurance!) I hope it didn’t cramp your style so much as slow your roll over this last, luxurious week.
Just make sure to take extra care over the next three days, as retrogrades tend to pack their biggest punch on their way out.
To support your optimal 2024 path, intuitive reading packages consisting of discounted intuitive readings and guidance sessions are available for purchase until January 15. You can also schedule a single session, of course. After that, I’ll be on my annual sabbatical until February 14, when my readings will focus on—you guessed it!—loooove.
Rest assured the Ruby Report will continue apace during this break, as I conjure new offerings and recharge my intuitive batteries. You’re welcome to stay in touch through this platform, and to show your support by sharing this post and purchasing a subscription for yourself or a loved one.
Sending loads of lovely love,
WHERE IS THE LOOOOVE!!??
