Hi, doll.
Have you noticed these last few weeks of 2024 have been especially buzzy? A “last days of disco” vibe is looming way larger than the standard holiday shuffle, and there have been publicly aired sexual assault accusations, publicly decried political appointments, publicly lauded assassinations.
This Mercury Retrograde in spray-it-don’t-say-it Sagittarius has been a wild session in the court of public opinion.
Over the next three days, the drama will only surge. Tonight, we have a full moon in Chatty Cathy Gemini; tomorrow afternoon, this Mercury retrograde finally ends. Given that Gemini is ruled by Mercury and that retrogrades tend to land their biggest punches on their way in and out, that’s a lot of action for the planet of communication.
Here’s why I dig this astrology: Gemini and Sagittarius are the most curious signs in the zodiac, in the sense that both are delightful oddballs keen to learn everything about anything. Saggie tends to focus on the big picture, and Gemini zooms in on the details. In tandem—and the Sun is also in Sagittarius until December 21—the two signs prompt us to embrace new ideas and arrive at new conclusions. We also may receive information or contracts that we’ve been awaiting for a while.
Tonight’s full moon is often referred to as the cold moon because it typically arrives just as the cold weather is kicking in. Emotionally as well as physically, warming activities are advised—anything that warms the blood, bones, heart. Certainly holiday festivities do that trick, as does year-end gift-giving.
This is a terrific aspect for catching up with loved ones and meeting new people, but the danger to say too much is real. Ditto for expressing yourself heedlessly and too adamantly.
“Blessed is the man who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving us worthy evidence of the fact.” —George Eliot
It doesn’t help that Mars, the planet of action and passion, is retrograde until February 23 in the sign of self-projecting Leo. (It moves into homebody Cancer on January 6.) Though this retrograde is pure garbage for launching new sexual or work ventures, I like that it’s the very opposite of Big Dick Energy, from which we sorely need a reprieve.
If you’ve begun dating someone new, it may be wise to be very Jane Austin in your courtship until late February. As well, new professional opportunities may not kick into gear for the first few months of 2025. (Trump’s second presidency, which I literally have been referring to as a cockocracy, may start off more sluggishly than he’s anticipating.)
In general, Mars retrograde retools how we express our fire, so coupled with this weekend’s loquacious stars, expect severe passive-aggressiveness and over-aggressiveness, o my!
Rituals Not Rules
This is an unusual opportunity to refocus self-expression and to learn where friends and foes alike are really coming from. Over the next three days, be mindful of any tendency you harbor to proselytize or shut others down.
You may hear precious new stories, even about yourself. Just make sure not to rush to conclusions or retell old tales, especially tall ones. Remember to ask questions rather than hold forth.
The nervous systems of those with important planets in Sagittarius and Gemini will be most affected, but everyone should go slow until Tuesday at the very earliest. Booze and other mood-altering substances will really unleash the tongue and destabilize regular cognition, so go easy on the partying. Better to let it all hang out on the dance floor or even with a favorite playlist in your living room. The physical release will counteract the intense headiness of this Gemini-Saggie pairing (and we’ve already established that sex itself may not be its usual fun.)
If opting for a quiet night over the next few days, try writing down old stories that have outlived their welcome. You know: “I’m bad with money.” Or: “I can’t date a person who [fill in the blank].” Under the light of this big juicy moon, safely burn the paper, than leave the ashes where she can see them so these stories may be more fully released.
If we are to flourish during 2025’s intense upheaval, we must listen with a more open mind and heart. The next few days afford us a beautiful window in which to edit our perspective, communication style, and circle of love.
“James Baldwin told me: ‘Don’t accept the evil thought, the prejudiced view, the pessimistic view of the world. Accept a role in making the world better, and go out and edit it.’ That is what Jimmy always sought to do: Edit the world; edit his friends; edit himself.”—Marlon Brando, Interview with James Grissom.
With the approach of the longest night that is winter solstice, sessions are growing ever-more illuminating. Slots remain tomorrow and next weekend, and it’s worth mentioning that Solstice readings (December 20-21) are downright enchanting. (I really love them.)
After Mercury goes direct this week, I will unroll my holiday packages. It is my honor to remind you now that a Ruby Intuition reading can make an excellent gift.
Be advised that readings rates will change in the new year, but gift sessions and sessions packages purchased before my yearly sabbatical (January 13-February 14) are at this year’s rate, and can be used any time in the next 12 months.
As always, your presence is a present.
